Ricardo Johnson

EVP, Strategy and Emerging Business, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield

Ricardo is the Executive Vice President of Strategy and Emerging Business for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. His responsibilities include overseeing the strategic direction, growth, and overall performance of both the Medicare and Medicaid business segments, including segment leaders, sales, community outreach, and reporting analytics functionality; strategy, Healthworx, and marketing, including CareFirst Engagement Centers; operations and strategic implementation; and care delivery, including CloseKnit and additional assets.

Ricardo joined CareFirst in 2011 as an associate general counsel. In 2015, he moved into a new role as special assistant to the CEO. This was followed by a promotion to senior vice president,
corporate development and leader of Healthworx in 2018. He began his current role in March 2022.

Ricardo holds a bachelor’s degree from La Salle University. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Ricardo currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Walters Art Museum. He has previously served on the Board of Directors for Central Scholarship and on the Board of Trustees for La Salle University.
