Thomas F. Zenty III is Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals. He leads a $4 billion comprehensive health system with more than 26,000 physicians and employees, 1 million patients and a national reputation for providing the highest-quality care.

Headquartered in Cleveland, UH includes 18 hospitals, more than 40 community health centers and hundreds of physician offices across 15 Northeast Ohio counties.

The system’s flagship is UH Cleveland Medical Center, affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. UH Cleveland Medical Center is perennially among the highest performers in the “America’s Best Hospitals” rankings from U.S. News & World Report, which also ranks UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital among the Best Children’s Hospitals. Among many other national honors, UH Cleveland Medical Center is also the first major academic medical center ever to earn the American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize, the top national honor for leadership and innovation in care-quality improvement and patient safety.

In 14 years under Mr. Zenty’s leadership, UH has grown market share, raised more than $1.4 billion in philanthropic support, augmented clinical research, and expanded community benefit. Since 2014, the UH system has integrated five suburban community hospitals: UH Elyria, UH Parma, UH Portage, UH Samaritan and UH St. John. A recent $1.2 billion systemwide investment added the state-of-the-art UH Seidman Cancer Center, UH Ahuja Medical Center in suburban Beachwood, and several other major facilities and community health centers. And Mr. Zenty oversaw the establishment of the Harrington Project for Discovery and Development, an innovative initiative that supports leading physician-scientists nationwide in the development and commercialization of new drug therapies.

In 2015, Mr. Zenty was honored with the prestigious Warren Bennis Award for Excellence in Leadership from the Global Institute of Leadership Development. Previous recipients include such luminaries as Mikhail Gorbachev; Starbucks Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz; Kaiser Permanente CEO Bernard J. Tyson; and Procter & Gamble Chairman of the Board, President and CEO A.G.

Lafley. Mr. Zenty is a past trustee of the American Hospital Association. Modern Healthcare included him among the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare, and he is in the Northeast Ohio Business Hall of Fame. He serves on the faculty of universities in the U.S. and abroad.
