How Value-Based Care & Payer Solutions are Advancing Health Equity Strategies
Level 3, Golden Eagle B
Hosted by Interwell Health | Facilitated by Daymon Smith, Chief Product & Technology Officer, Interwell Health, with industry leaders Carmen Peralta, MD, Chief Clinical Officer, Interwell Health, and Amit Shah, MD, Chief Medical Officer, CareOregon
Minority communities are often disproportionately impacted by specialty diseases because of the barriers they face, which often amplify the negative effects they face. While the complexity of these diseases and diverse patient population pose challenges, value-based care emerges as a promising solution. By considering the whole patient rather than just their disease, this concept empowers all payers to improve patient outcomes and address health disparities at the individual and population levels within their member base.
In addition, a value-based approach has proven to effectively control costs. For example, about 1 out of 5 dollars spent by Medicare every year is related to kidney disease, and the impact on private payers is just as challenging. But by combining the power of deep collaboration, analytics, partnerships with physicians, and a new holistic, full-patient approach, value-based health care enables better management of disease progression and reduces hospitalizations.
